Zembla's report 'The depleted soil: Supermarket power', the researchers look for the role that supermarkets play in the current food system. "We know that there are major problems in the food system. We also know that supermarkets are in an excellent position to help solve these problems. But what we don't know is what exactly they're doing to solve those problems." Says Gustaaf Haan, head of research Questionmark.
The report shows that supermarkets are reluctant to make the real costs of food preparation transparent. "Supermarkets and politicians are complicit in planetary plundering," says Professor Willem Schinkel.
