The Beter Leven kenmerk (BLk) of the Dierenbescherming imposes requirements on, among other things, living space, physical interventions and possibilities for laying hens to display natural behavior. Laying hens with 2 stars BLk live with a maximum of 9 chickens on 1 m² of shed, with a ground cover on which chickens can roam. In addition, each chicken has 4 m² of outside space. There is a maximum of 6000 laying hens together in a room. The beaks of the chickens are not cut down.

Cattle with 2 stars BLk live on at least 6.6 m² of stable with rubber or straw, which must have daylight. The are in the meadow for 12 days at least 6 months a year. The calves stay with the mother for at least 5 months. Only young bulls are castrated. Castration and dehorning are done under anesthesia with pain relief. Transport to the farm may not exceed 10 hours, and to the slaughter no longer than 4 hours.
