Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

Dec 7, 2021

Questionmark contributes to changing the food system by driving a market that is focused on healthy, sustainable and ethically responsible. The 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)' defined by the UN are an important guideline.

Questionmark's Superlists and our other research contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG 3

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

With our Superlists Health, we provide insight into what supermarkets can do to help people make healthier choices. Our product guides and product checkers provide both manufacturers and consumers insight into the health of different products. In this way, Questionmark contributes to combating premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention (SDG 3.4).

SDG 12

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

In addition to recommendations to make supermarkets and products healthier, Questionmark contributes to changing the food system with recommendations for supermarkets and producers to achieve a more efficient use of natural resources (SDG 12.2); take measures to achieve environmentally friendly management of chemicals and waste (SDG 12.4 and 12.5) and encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices and integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle (SDG 12.6).

By publishing our Superlists and our product guides and product checkers, we ensure that people everywhere have relevant information and are aware of sustainable development and lifestyles that are in harmony with nature (SDG 12.8).

SDG 14

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Questionmark conducts research into fish welfare for, among others, The Animal Protection foundations. In Superlist NL Green 2021, Questionmark provides insight into which fish products supermarkets only offer variants with relevant sustainability requirements. For example, Questionmark encourages supermarkets to take action to regulate fishing and put an end to overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices (SDG 14.4).

SDG 8

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

In 2021, Questionmark will for Superlist Social, compare supermarkets on - among other things - the safeguarding of human rights in the supply chains. More specifically, we will look at transparency and if the rights of women, farmers and workers are respected. With this, Questionmark wants to motivate supermarkets to take measures to prevent forced labour and slavery (SDG 8.7) and to ensure the dignified labour rights and healthy working environments (SDG 8.8).
