Transparancy on animal products and ingredients

Sainsbury’s was the most transparent in communicating country of origin, with 89% of products including provenance information. Almost half of the meat products across the largest four UK supermarkets were labelled to originate from the UK (46%). Just under a quarter (24%) of products were labelled as deriving from the ‘EU’, sometimes indicating a specific country (mostly Spain). Five per cent originated from a country outside the UK or European Union.

Transparency on the origin of animal products and ingredients is one of the five most important actions to be taken by retailers.
