The Beter Leven kenmerk (BLk) of the Dierenbescherming imposes requirements on, living space, material and possibilities for natural behavior, among other things. Cattle with 2 stars BLk live on at least 6.6 m² of stable with rubber or straw, which must have daylight. The are in the meadow for 12 days at least 6 months a year. The calves stay with the mother for at least 5 months. Only young bulls are castrated. Castration and dehorning are done under anesthesia with pain relief. Transport to the farm may not exceed 10 hours, and to the slaughter no longer than 4 hours. The Beter Leven kenmerk (BLk) of the Dierengescherming imposes requirements on living space, distraction material and possibilities for natural behavior, among other things. Pigs with 2 stars BLk have 0.5 m² of straw-covered housing per piglet, increasing to 1.2 m² for an adult pig. In addition, each pig has 0.7 m² of covered spout. More stringent requirements are imposed on the housing space of sows (mother pigs) and sows with piglets. Piglets stay with the mother for at least 35 days. Tails are not docked. The maximum transport time for pigs and piglets is 8 and 6 hours respectively. | |||
